Private
lessons called Functional Integration®
follow a similar format. These lessons begin
with the Feldenkrais® practitioner
observing the student’s posture, breathing and movement. Next, the practitioner asks the student to
lie or sit on the table. The position on
the table will vary depending on the lesson.
Once the student is settled in a comfortable position the practitioner
moves the student through the specific movements of the lesson. FI produces the same type of learning as
ATM. The process is gentle and within
the individual’s comfortable range.
Movement during the lesson may be large or very small. All of the movement regardless of scale gives
useful information to your nervous system.
The advantage of Functional
Integration® is the practitioner’s knowing hands keep the movement of the
lesson in a precise range that increases the learning during the lesson. As the student progresses with the Feldenkrais Method® they will develop a
high level of awareness and be able to work with themselves in this precise
range.
